Did You Know?

The bulk of the underwater filming was done in the Bahamas in the same area where the shooting took place in silent film in 1916.

One used in the filming of the models of the Nautilus on display at the theme Park Disney World's EPCOT Center's.

Richard Fleisher was very surprised by the appearance of his candidacy for a seat in the Director's chair, because he was the son of the main competitor of Disney animator max Fleisher. He asked for clarification to the very Walt disney, but he replied that he knows who he is, and considers it the most appropriate choice for this work.

The scale of the shooting process was so large that Disney had to ask for help to other Hollywood film studios to use their capabilities. So the initial scenes were filmed on one of the filming locations Universal Pictures and 20th Century Fox provided one of the largest at the time of water containers to work with large models.

Production designer Harper Goff, among other things, also taught Kirk Douglas to play the guitar for his number, "a Whale of a Tale". His cameo can be seen in the beginning of the film in the office of the steamship company in San Francisco.

The role of Professor Arronax could get Charles Boyer, who was forced to withdraw due to employment in other projects.

The boat in which the characters land on the island of cannibals, was made of wood painted the color of the metal. So she sat deeper in the water, used a specially laid sand bags.

The average length of shot: 9 seconds.

For the role of captain Nemo auditioned Gregory peck. Also discussed was the nomination of British actor Ralph Richardson.

The original idea of Walt Disney was the creation of a full-length animated film, but the detailed preliminary sketches of production designer Harper Goff and his insistence to make a choice in favor of the feature film prompted to change the decision.

The upturned lifeboat, in which the hero is Kirk Douglas got to the "Nautilus", was maintained for greater stability on the bottom hidden under water diver-diver.

The complex design of the Nautilus has developed Roland hill, who later became the Creator of Sleeping beauty's Castle at Disneyland.

To late 60-ies a set representing the interior of "Nautilus", was fully preserved and was used as a attraction at Disney. This includes navigation, cabin, and legendary on one of the big Windows, over which were attached to the giant squid. The beak of the squid could move several times to click and go back.

"20,000 leagues under the sea" was the first disney project, released an internal film Studio Buena Vista.
