Vertigo

The film is based on the novel "From the dead" (D'entre les morts, 1954), co-written by Pierre Boileau and Tom Narsezhaka.

The film rights were purchased by the Director and built a legacy for his daughter, so that a new generation of viewers saw this film in 1985.

The shooting of the film took place in the period from 30 Sep 1957 19 Dec 1957.

For the role of Madeline Hitchcock had planned to take Vera miles, but she was forced to withdraw because of pregnancy.

"Vertigo" is the fourth and last joint project of Alfred Hitchcock and James Stewart.

Picture of cold took both critics and audience. Crushed Hitchcock blamed the failure of starring James Stewart, saying he was exhausted and his best years are behind us. More Hitchcock never worked with Stewart in his films, although he was reputed to be his favourite.

During the filming of Hitchcock and Kim Novak was a very strained relationship. First, a popular singer Madeline Hitchcock considered Vera miles, and Novak was forced by his Studio bosses, and second, Kim Hitchcock periodically gave advice on what the Director didn't like.

Script writing for film with the working title Darkling I Listen was entrusted to the famous playwright Maxwell Anderson. Hitchcock remained dissatisfied and appealed for help to a professional writer Alec Koppel. The proposed version of the script also went in the trash. The third version of the script was prepared by Samuel Taylor, which Hitchcock recommended as an expert of the topography of San Francisco. Despite the objections of Taylor, Koppel failed to prove that the final script has preserved its achievements. In the credits as the writers have used both.

To emphasize the earthy vulgarity Judy, at the time of filming Kim Novak did not wear a bra.

Tower of the mission San Juan Bautista Hitchcock seemed impressive enough, so the Studio was built a copy of the necessary height. The scene on the stairs was filmed in a Studio pavilion.

Long debate among the creators of the film gave rise to the idea of Hitchcock to reveal the circumstances of the death of Madeleine in an unsent letter (almost in the middle of the movie). This was a major departure from the book and the script. "Master of suspense" was convinced that the real tension occurs only when the viewer is aware of what is happening a bit more than the main character. At the urging Hitchcock to the leadership of the Studio was presented both versions of the film, and the version with the unsent letter received a "green light" at the last moment.
