Antoine doinel twelve years a difficult teenager. His mother is busy personal life, and she had neither the time nor the inclination to delve into the problems of his son. Mysterious to our ears the name of "the Four hundred blows" is identical to the Russian proverb "to go through fire, water and copper pipes".
The film is dedicated to andré Bazin.
It is usually said that this is the first role in the cinema of Jean-Pierre Leo. 14-year-old boy was on the set, responding to the announcement, and Truffaut took it, startled at external resemblance to himself in the same tender age. And yet Jean-Pierre already had experience in film he played a small role in the adventure tape George Lampen "La Tour, look out!" (1958).
When Antoine and Rene stroll through the city, they pass by the wall on which is pasted a lot of ads and posters. One of the posters Harriet Andersson in Ingmar Bergman's "Summer with Monika" (1953). This tape also tells the story of two young runaways.

Among the names of the film was considered: "the Escape of Antoine", "the Four Thursdays", "Little angry", "School street", "stray life", "Children of Paris", "Little loafers", "Little buddies", "Wild Fox" and "Little soldiers."
The picture was shot in 46 days. Work began in November and continued with one day off in the first six weeks and three in the last two weeks before the end of December. Subsequently, the Director will make films exactly the way using the strategy of "lightning storm".
