The film tells the story of ishwar Chakraborty from East Pakistan after the partition of India in 1947. He goes to West Bengal with his little sister SITA, where he tries to start a new life. In the refugee camp, they witness the kidnapping of a Dalit woman and ishwar takes her little son to him. He gets a job at the plant in the province near the river Suvarnarekha.
