A successful lawyer from new York, Oliver Wendell Douglas in obedience to his dream of buying land in the small town of Hooterville to become a farmer. After buying the farm he sells the apartment in the city and moved with his wife in a little old house. Oliver's wife, Lisa Douglas reluctantly moved from the city and takes over the running of the household.
