The action takes place in Odessa in 1918-1919. At the request of General Denikin in Odessa, a French squadron arrives to restore order in the city. Odessa the Bolsheviks are trying to persuade the sailors to leave the city. In the center of the narrative the heroic fate of a Frenchwoman Jeanne-Marie Lyaburb (1877-1919), who was shot by the French invaders.
