Plot Summary

Experiencing a spiritual and creative crisis of composer Gustav von Ashenbach arrives in the spring of 1911 at the resort near Venice. Suddenly it strikes and fascinates the beauty of the teenager Tadzio, the son of a Polish aristocrat. Embarrassed by his feelings, broke Achenbach to leave, but, unfortunately, infected with a transient viral infection and the last moments of its life on the beach, watching the games and pranks of the young Tadzio

In the original novel by Thomas Mann main character, unlike the movie, was a famous writer whose image was copied by the author with Gustav Mahler. Thus, Luchino Visconti in his work only went back to the source, making Gustav a background of Ashenbaha composer.

For a long time after the film's release in the press circulated rumors of the death of the performer of the role of Tadzio Bjorn Andresen.
