France, 1944. The surgeon at the local hospital helping the Resistance, sends his wife and daughter in the village, and when he comes to visit them, sees the bodies of brutally murdered people, including his daughter and his shot from the flamethrower agenda wife. The SS also were still in place violence, celebrating the "victory" of local importance. The idea of the story was the massacre in Oradour-sur-Glane, when a battalion of Panzer-Grenadier of the Waffen-SS "Führer" divisions "Das Reich" cut the population of the village: men, women and children (a total of 642 victims), which was the mass killing of civilians committed by German troops on French soil in the history of France.
The film was shot in the village of Bruniquel, Department of the tarn and Garonne and Montauban.
After the film Philippe noiret became the first actor, who received the award "Cesar" for best actor.
