The film is based on the novel by Peter Benchley, "Jaws" (Jaws, 1974).

The first in the history of film, managed to conquer the coveted 100-million mark. All in all, he managed to earn around 260 million in the U.S. box office and $ 210 million at the global box office.

After the overwhelming success of the film at the box office, critics were quick to hang all the credit to the editor Verna fields. 28-year-old Steven Spielberg has not been taken into account. Therefore, in later works, Stephen refused the services of Mrs. fields.

The first ever "summer blockbuster". In the summer of 1975 it was sold about 67 million tickets.

The producers of the films decided to avoid involvement in the project superstars, not to distract viewers from storytelling and focus on the sharks and their victims.

For the first time after listening to the soundtrack to the film, written by John Williams, Steven Spielberg could not restrain his laughter: "John, very funny. I'm curious, what were you thinking when you wrote music?". Stephen subsequently acknowledged that it is through music that Williams, the film became so successful.

A curious situation has developed at the Oscars in February 1976. John Williams at that time was conductor of the orchestra at the ceremony, and after he got the prize for best soundtrack, was forced to flee the scene behind the statue, and then return again to his duties.

The filming process lasted for up to 155 days instead of the originally planned 52 days.

In "Jaws" was first patented camera technique when optical by objects in the background closer, while everything on the foreground, does not change.

First, from the role of Quint refused Lee Marvin and Jon Voight.

Robert Shaw and Richard Dreyfuss simply could not tolerate each other and often swearing on the court, so that the scene of conflict between Hooper and Quinton are partly real shade.

Built the mechanical shark when they brought her to the island of Martha's vineyard and placed in the water, simply sank, so the crew had to urgently little to alter it.

In the scene where the shark attacks the cage sitting in it Hooper, operators of underwater photography: Ron and Valerie Taylors used a real shark. But because live sharks was much less mechanical, was built a smaller cage in which was a woman of very low growth. And, by the way, in the original version, the shark was not supposed to break the cage, but after a real fish started to break into a cage, and this rare footage was filmed, was somewhat rewritten the script, and those scenes inserted into the film.

The role of Martin Brody auditioned Charlton Heston, and on the role of Matt Hooper, Jeff bridges, Timothy bottoms and Jan-Michael Vincent.

The main character is Sheriff Martin Brody, as we know, does not know how to swim, that anecdotal resonates with the fact that Spielberg himself was terrified of the water, removing the Jaws.

For 70 years the film's budget was huge, besides just stuffed with electronics, the man-eater had cost two million.

The shooting took place on the island of Martha's vineyard (Massachusetts) near the Eastern coast of the United States (there are six small resort towns), some scenes with this shark was filmed in Australia at seal rocks (Victoria), and underwater photography — near the island of Santa Catalina (California) on the West coast of the United States.

The working title of the film — "the Silence in the water" (Stillness in the Water).

3-6 June 2005 on the island of Martha's vineyard (Massachusetts) was held the festival "JAWSFest-2005" dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the classic horror film "Jaws".

A bestseller by Peter Benchley, and Steven Spielberg has used borrowings from the following sources: the novel by Herman Melville "Moby dick"

Actress Lee Fierro, in the film the mother of the deceased boy Alex Kintner, could not fake a slap in the face to Martin Brody in one scene so the actor Roy Scheider several times in duplicates received from her quite tangible blows to the face.

Later on the producers admitted that if they had known how much trouble it would be during the production of the picture, they never would have taken this film.

The name Quintus in Latin means "the fifth", which corresponds to the fifth human victim of the killer in the film. And the name of his vessel, the "ORCA" corresponds to the national title orca whale-killer, the eternal enemy of sharks.

This picture brought profit not only to its creators but to the island of Martha's vineyard, because the number of tourists per season up until 1975 there was about 5 thousand people, and after the release of the movie on the screen — three times more.

The team that created the layout of the mechanical shark, named it "Bruce" — on behalf of attorney Steven Spielberg.

In small roles starred Steven Spielberg (in the scene on the beach where he is in band playing the clarinet) and Peter Benchley, (TV reporter, host of a report about a shark in Amity).

A dead shark, supposedly a former man-eater, is actually caught and brought from Florida, because about Martha's vineyard such large instances is not found.

In a mass panic scene on the beach as extras, who were screaming and running into each other, for $ 64 were hired by the inhabitants of the island of Martha's vineyard.

The old QUINTA house for the film was built in a deserted place on the island of Martha's vineyard, but a municipality of the island have insisted that after the shooting, the team was dismantled and destroyed the building, because it rather resembles a garbage dump than home.

Steven Spielberg in the role of Quint wanted to see first, Lee Marvin, and then Sterling Hayden. However, the latter had problems with the IRS. In addition, the producers seemed risky scheme payment for his acting work, for which he on the one hand, was to receive a fee for shooting the film (which is taxed), and on the other, a Studio for a large sum had to buy Hayden his literary material for the new film (the actor was still a writer), this income is not taxable. Because of all these irregularities, in the end, the deal with Hayden never took place and instead in the role of Quint was played by Robert Shaw. But ironically Robert Shaw also had trouble with the tax authorities, so that immediately after the shooting, he was forced to flee from the United States.

Work on the film lasted from February 1974 to April 1975. The shooting took place from 2 may to 15 September 1974 October — December- some additional shooting, and the rest of the time editing and preparing for the premiere.

Sounding in the painting of the mouth of fisherman Quint's story about the tragic fate of the team of a warship "Indianapolis" (from more than a thousand people, survivors of the sinking on 30 July 1945, survived only 316: the rest were eaten by sharks) was written by Howard Saleroom, John Milius and Robert Shaw.

The TV version of 2005 has a duration of 130 minutes.

A scene in which a character is killed Jeffrey Voorhis was so terrible that it had to be cut from the final release. Thus, the film could get a rating of PG.

According to the original script, Quint was supposed to drown. The rope from the harpoon clung to his leg, and the shark dragged him into the depths of the sea, where Quint and accepted his death. However, during the shoot it was decided that Quint should be eaten by a shark.

The character Matt Hooper, the original idea was supposed to die in the cage when player is attacked by a shark.

Was filmed two versions of the ending of this film is when the shark breaks the head, and when she dies from blood loss due to multiple harpoons. Steven Spielberg was behind the first version, Peter Benchley, to the second, which they had a lot of disagreements about it. But the audience at the premiere of "legalized" the first death eater.

Steven Spielberg did not appear in the Director's chair when there was a shooting the last scene of the movie where the shark explodes — he was sure that the crew conspired and planned to throw it into the water after the command "cut." Since Spielberg started the tradition not to come to shooting the final scene of each movie he directs.
