The film is based on the novel by Sergei Pavlov.

The film contains a large number of underwater shots that required careful preparation and organization. They all took place near the southern coast of Cape Tarkhankut in the Crimea. Decoration underwater station "Deuterium-1010" was created in three stages: first, at the nearest port made the carrier portion, then at the Yalta film Studio built compartments of the station. Final Assembly and finishing took place in the port where the scenery was loaded on the ship-crane "SKIF" deliver the building to the Bay Small Atlesh, chosen as the main set.

The main part of the underwater scenes filmed from a specially constructed underwater habitable module with Windows for all round visibility. Room for the cameraman, supplied with compressed air through the hose, designed for working depths up to 12 metres, excluding the process of decompression after each dive. The module could be installed in the base vehicle in different locations and were later used for underwater shooting in other films.
