The story of the complicated family life of a prominent Norwegian writer and his wife, a former actress, Maria, told against the backdrop of political events of the late 30's-early 50's, when Hamsun of the ruler of the minds and pride of the nation became a traitor and was ostracized. As you know, the writer was a Nazi sympathizer during the war, for which he was brought to trial and convicted of treason.
