It is known that Stroheim ordered print fake French money. Unfortunately, the bill was so similar to the real thing that Stroheim was arrested for counterfeiting, and on 14 July 1920 he had to appear before the court. He said that the money was intended for use exclusively in film, and in the end let him go.
Because the cost of making the film regularly grew Universal in an attempt to use the losses to their advantage mounted on Broadway electric scoreboard, which every week shows how much has already been spent on the film.
