Plot Summary

Engineer Moose creates a spaceship to fly to Mars. In flight, he is accompanied by red army soldier Gusev, dreaming to immediately organize a revolution on Mars, and the detective Kravtsov, unsuspecting Elk in the murder of his wife.

The film is based on the novel by Alexei Tolstoy's "Aelita" (1923).

Aelita was the first film by Yakov Protazanov after his return from exile.

Martian scenery was made for Victor of Sims in the spirit of constructivism and the design of the costumes designed by the costume of the Moscow art Theater by Isaac Rabinovich and Alexandra Exter, with the participation of Nadezhda Lamanova.

The organizers of the first in the USSR experimental animation workshop at the State College of cinematography Nikolai Intercessors, Zenon Komisarenko and Yuri Merkulov offered Protazanova to get to the animated episodes, but the Director in this experiment did not go. In the end, prepared the sketches were used to create the sci-Fi animated film "Interplanetary revolution" (1924).

The film was preceded by an unprecedented advertising campaign in Newspapers, which began about six months before the premiere — 26 Feb 1924 in "Cinema Newspaper" (published by the film company "Mezhrabpom-Rus"), which initially was published intriguing ads with the text "ANTA... ODELI... UTA..." — without any explanation (but in some cases, several such ads on the same page). From 15 April the ads were accompanied by explanatory text: "for some time radio stations around the world began to receive confusing signals..." Closer to the premiere (19 September) to the advertising campaign was connected to the newspaper "Pravda", in which a mysterious signal has been reproduced in a more "transparent" view: "Anta... odeli... Uta" and in the advertisement published on 24 September, the intriguing inscription was directly included in the announcement of the premiere screening of the film at the cinema "ARS".

15 Oct 1924 in gahna the film Commission held a debate about the film introductory speech by V. K. Turkin. On December 3 a meeting of the Commission of the Central Committee of the CPSU(b) on the political leadership of the film organizations of the company "Mezhrabpom-Rus" was denied a petition for removal of the film "Aelita" abroad for the demonstration.
