Plot Summary

The film is set in California in 1856. Fraudsters collected a gold mine called Flor de Noche (i.e., Flower of the night) don Geraldo Villalona, a descendant of Spanish grandees. His daughter Carlotta falls in love with John Basset, assistant to the new Manager, and despite the prohibition of his father, sent him to the dance. There she is busily trying to inspire to dance drunk derk Bilant, managing a mine. This scene takes place in front of Bassett, he misunderstands the situation and rejects the girl. Carlotta tells his father that disobedience is a disgrace to the name Villalona, and he commits suicide. Then she goes to San Francisco, dancing in the dancing hall and makes acquaintance with Luke Rand, who heads the vigilante organization called the Committee of Vigilance. Rand offers to help to return mine, and Carlotta, stung by the attitude of Bassett, agrees, but then realizes that thus put the life of a Basset in danger and tries to stop Luke. In the end, Bassett kills Rand, and the lovers are reunited.
