Did You Know?

The film is based on the instructions of October the anniversary of the Commission at the Presidium of the USSR Central Executive Committee and was dedicated to the 10-year anniversary of the great October socialist revolution.

In 1967, the film was restored and dubbed at "Mosfilm".

In this film, Sergei Eisenstein's first embodies the theory of "intellectual cinema". The gist of it was that by editing sequences to bring the viewer to a particular theoretical notion of a generalized conclusion. In particular, the episode of the destruction of the monument to Alexander III embodied the collapse of the autocracy. Repetition in reverse order (like a monument formed of fragments) meant the attempt of the restoration of the monarchy.

Initial versions of the script for "October" included a historical chronicle of events from the February revolution to the civil war. In the end, the script had much to cut and finish the film by the events of October 1917.

At the disposal of the Director was provided with substantial resources: film, historical costumes, weapons. As the crowd was allowed to use military units. Also, she was allowed to film at the scene of the revolution — on the outskirts of Winter and in the interiors of the Palace. Consultants film made by participants of the October events: Krupskaya and Podvoisky (he even played in the film itself).

It was planned that the film will be released in theaters for the 10th anniversary of the revolution in 1927, but the shooting was delayed and the movie was only at the beginning of 1928.

Due to changes in the political climate in the Soviet Union in the final stages editing film Director Eisenstein was forced to remove from the film many figures of the revolution: Leon Trotsky, Vladimir Antonov-Ovseenko, Vladimir Nevsky.

Delighted with the music of Edmund Mazel, written for the European release of the film "Battleship "Potemkin", Eisenstein suggested to the composer to write the music and "October". However, in Moscow the score if not considered too avant-garde, in the Soviet Union the film was released with a different soundtrack

In 2011, as a result of joint work of German and Russian organizations, which lasted 5 years, managed to recover the original soundtrack of "October," but only the score, written by if not for a shortened version

The revolutionaries in the film stormed the Winter in front of the Jordan staircase. In fact, in October 1917, it was accessible only to the military hospital, which occupied a considerable part of the Palace. This storm was walking down the stairs "her Imperial Majesty" (now October), but she she seemed insufficiently cinematic.
