Plot Summary

The film tells the story of a tight control over organized crime in Chicago during the "dry law". The main character — Tony Charmonte, ambitious criminal, no pity in you. Tony goes to his goal: he intends to become crime boss of the city.

Screenwriter Ben Hecht was a journalist in Chicago and was well acquainted with many gangsters, including al Capone. During the filming Hecht once returned to his hotel room in Los Angeles and found two thugs al Capone. They asked him whether the film is about al Capone.
