Butch Saunders, bold and uncompromising detective, was transferred from the police Department of missing persons. When a young woman asks him to help find her husband, he discovers that in fact she is a Norma Phillips, wanted by Chicago police for the murder of her husband. Norm fakes a suicide by drowning and disappears, and Saunders borrows a corpse from the morgue to turn to fake her "funeral" in the hope that the Rule will show up.
