Plot Summary
Did You Know?
The film is based on the novel by Rafael Sabatini.
In the role of captain blood was supposed to play Robert Donat, but in the end, the heads of Warner Bros. decided to take a chance and replaced him with Errol Flynn, then no one unknown actor from Australia.
In the battle scenes there were not real ships, and small models.
By his own admission, Flynn in the film he often played his partner, the actress Olivia de Havilland. Some of his jokes were pretty mean for example, once the actor hid in the linen Olivia a dead snake than scared actress.
Basil Rathbone, who plays captain Levasseur, did not like Errol Flynn. In the scene of the fight of their heroes Rathbone distracted the enemy's attention, saying that they will receive for participation in the film is much more than Flynn, and deliberately wounded him in the arm.
The film was shown in Soviet cinemas under the title "Island of sufferings".
