The Epstein brothers finished work on the script three days before we started shooting, which began Director Michael Kertits may 25, 1942. Howard Koch completed his script two weeks after the start of filming.

While working on the script, Epstein and Koch were in different places.

Neither Bogart nor Bergman was not the first choice of the Director. Initially the lead role was planned which was then in the Zenith of Hollywood fame, the actor Ronald Reagan, the future President of the United States. And the lead female character was supposed to play the actress Michelle Morgan, demanded a fee of $55 thousand the Producer refused to pay the money when it became clear that Ingrid Bergman agrees to the amount of half the size.

The script finished writing just three days before filming, and the final picture couldn't figure out until the last day on the set. And when Ingrid Bergman asked who is in love with her character, Director Michael Kertits asked her to play like she's fluctuating feelings between the two men.

In the movie "Black cat, white cat" (dir. Emir Kusturica, 1998) the hero of the film repeatedly scans the Grga final frames of "Casablanca" with the phrase he repeats and quotes: "I think it will be the beginning of a great friendship".

Embedded in the mouth of captain Renault ironic the phrase "the usual suspects" was in the title of the cult film of the 1990s.

Paul Henreid, who got the role by Laszlo, did not get along with other actors, Ingrid Bergman considered him a "prima Donna", and Henreid spoke disparagingly about the acting abilities of Humphrey Bogart.

According to the recollections of Bergman, because of its high growth, the Director made a little Bogart to stand on the stand or to sit on pillows when they starred together. Immediately upon completion of filming, Bergman cut her hair short for his next film, which made it impossible to reshoot certain scenes.

Composer Max Steiner wrote the music for the film, alternating between motives of the two main melodies — romantic theme "As Time Goes By" (from the musical of 1931) and the Patriotic "Marseillaise".

The famous final line of the Bogart — "I think it will be the beginning of a beautiful friendship" — was written at the end of filming and dubbed by Bogart after about a month after the end of the film.

In connection with the landing of the allies in Africa, there were plans to shoot another scene involving Rick and Renault, but they had to be abandoned due to the employment of actors in other projects. In addition, against new endings objected influential producer David O. Selznick.

The premiere of the film was timed to coincide with the ingress of Casablanca on the front pages of American Newspapers: in November 1942, allied troops occupied Casablanca in January 1943 there was a meeting of Roosevelt and Churchill. Given that fact, "Warner Bros." decided not to postpone the premiere of the film. However, American soldiers in North Africa it saw: the authorities did not want to provoke numerous in the French colonies supporters of the Vichy regime.

Since 1957, many cinemas started to run the film during the summer exams, initially at Harvard and then at other universities. And twenty years later it was estimated that "Casablanca" more than any other broadcast on American television. To further facilitate the process of attaching the film to new generations of viewers, Ted Turner in the 1980-ies financed colorization of Casablanca. The move provoked a mixed reaction in the camp of lovers of cinema: the son of Bogart, for example, compared the coloring of the film with prodelyvaniem of arms to Venus de Milo.
