In this case, Holmes and Watson guard the priceless Borgia Pearl, a "cursed" gem that has inspired the many murders in his life. Their main enemy Giles Conover, who, in spite of all obstacles to his attempts to steal the Pearl, still manage to discredit Holmes in the eyes of the public.
